Freeport – Local construction crews are calling in an architect to help tear down a 150-year-old Freeport building that collapsed in June this year which distressed neighboring business owners.
The Mahoney Building’s demolition was planned to begin on Dec. 13 but was delayed by complications. Construction workers decide they would only do a section of the project.
If the building is not demolished properly it could damage offices to the west, said Mayor George Gaulrapp.
The building, located at 8 North Galena by the Stephenson County courthouse, is a two or three story old brick office building.
The block was closed and the building was unoccupied when it collapsed. There were no injuries reported.
